Fireborn by Aisling Fowler [book review]
Fireborn book summary:
Fireborn is a young adult fantasy novel that follows twelve. She lives in a world full of monsters. A while back she gave up her name and her identity to train to become a hunter. At least that’s what she says. When Twelve’s home is attacked she finds herself on a journey. A journey to save a girl that befriended her. But this unexpected journey takes her on a trip of strength, faith, and forgiveness. On top of that secrets come out between her and some of the others that make the trip a lot harder. Will they survive? Can they find the girl that was kidnapped from their camp?
What I thought of Fireborn
I want to thank The Write Reads and Aisling Fowler for the opportunity to read and review Fireborn. Fantasy is usually hit or miss for me. I’m not completely sure what it is about certain ones that makes me fall in love and others that I can’t even finish. Thankfully Fireborn was not one of those books where I wound up having to DNF it.
Before I start my review.. If this is the type of book you enjoy then consider checking out my review of We Could Be Heroes.
The Characters
So, Fireborn follows Twelve. She has lost her name and her identity. She is trying to become a hunter not because she wants to but because she needs to. She needs to because she needs to get revenge.
Twelve has some of the best character development! She goes from a very angry woman to a still somewhat angry woman who has learned to forgive others. Twelve has gone through a lifetime of regret in such a short period. I would not want her life and have the regret she went through.
She grows from not liking a lot of people to being able to forgive and actually make friends. If I had gone through what she went through I would probably be angry too.
The Plot
So, as I said earlier I wasn’t really sure how I would feel about Fireborn. Some fantasy I love and some not at all. Because of that I kind of find it hard to find a happy middle ground where when I read them they aren’t from one extreme to the other. Despite that, Fireborn is one of my favorites! The flow is so well done and will keep your interest through the whole story. On top of that, the character development is well done too!
The world-building is something I love with this story too. I don’t know what it is about reading books with creatures but I love them. It helps if those creatures are dangerous, creepy, or both. The creatures in Fireborn are one of three of those things. Sometimes they’re all three!
I can’t wait to read more books by Aisling since she does a great job getting her words out there and making them interesting!
