About Nightmare of a trip
Leigh wants to spend time with her kids before they grow up and move out. Her husband has always wanted to plan something… like a road trip. So he plans everything to a T from Milwaukee to Orlando, FL. They’re already having a rough start when they stumble on an old abandoned house that burned down. While there is something that attaches itself to Leigh and haunts them to Florida. Will they be able to shake this off?
What I thought
I got an advanced copy of Nightmare of a Trip right before it was released, and I didn’t get to it until recently. I picked the pook up because I read one of Maureen’s last books called Suburban Hell. I have to admit that I think I liked Suburban Hell a little better than this one. Suburban Hell had some creepy aspects to it, while this one didn’t.
I would probably describe this one as more of a cozy horror. I guess by the cover alone it should kind of tell a reader about that. The story did sound kind of promising when I first read the synopsis.
I guess I was just hoping for a little more with it. Maybe more of a creep factor, something.
This whole trip would have been a nightmare for me, though. I just couldn’t imagine making that many stops. I would have rather just gone to Disney and be done, because that in and of itself is super draining. I wouldn’t say that Nightmare of a trip was even all that bad. It even has some promising parts to it that really caught my attention, but then ultimately fell flat.
I wish I had enjoyed this one a bit more. If you’re just getting into horror and wanting something to kind of ease into, then I suggest giving this one a try. It’s not gory or even all that scary, for that matter.
Plus, this would make a great “summer” or “road trip” read.
