I learned what a bullet journal is a couple of years ago and fell in love with it! For a while now I have found myself struggling to find a planner I will stick with. I have found so many of them that I liked but then after using them for maybe a couple of months I decided that I don’t like them anymore. I don’t know what it is about them that makes me want to stop using them after so long. It probably has nothing to do with the planner itself but it’s me with the problem.
Maybe it’s because I feel like not many of them are tailored to me. There are things that I wind up liking about it and then there are other aspects that make me lose interest very quickly. But that’s one of the good things about having a bullet journal, you can tailor it to your needs.
Before I started creating my own I started watching YouTube videos about them. Considering I haven’t done many journals myself I love being able to get ideas on what I want to do myself. But after watching bullet journal videos it has made me realize how creative people are!

I do feel like that may be the only downside to bullet journaling. I know a lot of people including myself compare their bullet journals to the more artistic ones.
So, what exactly is a bullet journal?
What is a bullet journal?
Technically any journal can be used as a bullet journal but what most people use are journals with a dot grid. None of them have lines in them and you use the dots to draw boxes and lines to it and have them where you want them.
For the most part bullet journals are used as a planner but you’re able to create it the way you want it and to have all of the things you want included in it.
What to bullet Journal
You can include pretty much whatever you want to in the bullet journal. With mine, I have included a future log, my goals, and my quarterly goals.
I know trying to figure out some bullet journal ideas and bullet journal page ideas can be hard to do. When doing some research on what I wanted to do and what I wanted to include it’s hard not to be intimidated about it. There are so many people out there who create their bullet journals and they are so so so creative. Don’t get me wrong that’s absolutely great but I tend to feel like I can be that creative as well and wind up disappointed.
I know that I can be creative but to the extent some of these YouTubers go to it takes a lot of practice that I haven’t done and that’s okay. We’re not going to be immediately good at things.
Here are some other ideas that you can include.
- Finances
- Mood tracking
- Schedule
- Chore chart
- Monthly, Weekly, Daily Spread
- Monthly Calendar
- Vision Board
How to bullet journal
Honestly, this is ultimately up to you! I say that because I know that some can spiral down that rabbit hole of how others manage their bullet journals and all of the creativity behind it. At least that’s what I did when I first started. I have started multiple bullet journals and wound up quitting because of this. I constantly compared it and then just completely stopped.
I would look into what exactly you want to include in your planner and maybe a few ideas of how to set it up. But I wouldn’t spend all of your time looking for ideas or it’s going to start feeling overwhelming. Just start slow and if you’re not that artistic just work on doing something simple.

Conclusion to creating your best bullet journal
Now that I’m getting the hang of my very own bullet journal and I’m finally starting to not compare it to other more creative bullet journals. If I can do it then I know you can too! Especially considering that I am a perfectionist and struggle with comparing.
Just make sure when you go into the process to not compare and don’t make it as creative as others are making it. The ones that are doing it that way have YEARS of experience. Also, when you’re looking for a bullet journal that will best fit you don’t just go for looks. Some bullet journal pages bleed through depending on what pen or marker you use. If you’re okay with that then go crazy but if not then make sure you’re paying attention to that.
