For the longest time, it has seemed like everyone has had a summer reading list. That’s for good reason, though in a way. Summer is the time for vacation and that kind of leaves time to get a lot of reading done. I guess that’s also in part of how old your kids are, if you have any. But what about fall? For me I feel like we need the ultimate fall reading list, especially with the breaks we get.
I feel like for me fall is the most asthetic season out of all of them. It’s the season that most people really look forward to. So why not have the ultimate fall reading list to help curate our happiness for fall being here?
I always feel like what you read, watch, and do helps so much with making the best out of the season!

The Ultimate Fall Reading List
As I said before, what you read and watch can kind of help determine how your month or season is going to go. If you’re watching and reading nothing but crap, then it kind of puts a damper on things. So, hopefully you find something on the ultimate fall read list that will make fall your best season yet!
Practical Magic (the ultimate fall reading list)
So, I’m actually not sure if this book is the same thing as the movie or not. I know there are books out there with similar titles (or pretty much the same), but then they are completely different.
If they are different, then they coincidentally have very similar premises.
With that being said, though, I feel like Practical Magic is a great book to add to the ultimate fall reading list. I’m not sure what it is about fall that makes me associate it with spookyish stuff (possibly due to Halloween), but witches are a great addition if you like that sort of stuff.
Here is what Practical Magic is about.
For two hundred years, the Owens women have been blamed for everything in their town. It’s no different for Gillian and Sally. As kids, they were outsiders, taunted, talked about, and pointed at. Their aunts seem to encourage the whispers. Gillian and Sally want to escape, though.
One escapes by getting married, and the other runs away. Their bond with one another will bring them back, almost as if it were magic.
The Ex Hex
The Ex Hex is another witchy book that I have been hearing a lot about, but I haven’t had the chance to get to it yet. I feel like this one is on just about everyone’s ultimate fall reading list.
Here is what The Ex Hex is about.
Nine years ago, Vivienne dealt with a broken heart like any witch would. That included alcohol, sad music, baths, and a curse on her terrible ex-boyfriend. She knows that she shouldn’t use her magic this way but she knows this won’t cause him any harm other than a bad hair day or two.
But then Rhys, the descendant of the town’s ancestors, comes back to Graves Glen, Georgia. What should have been a quick trip to the fall festival turns completely wrong. But as things keep going wrong, she realizes that her hex may not have been so harmless.
Now, Graves Glen is being attacked by murderous wind-up toys, a mad ghost, and a talking cat with weird things to say. Vivi and Rhys have to put the chemistry aside to save the town and break the break-up curse. Otherwise, it will be too late.
The Unmaking of June Farrow (the ultimate fall read list)
So I actually haven’t heard anything about The Unmaking of June Farrow, which is why I added it to the ultimate fall reading list. If I haven’t heard of it, then I’m sure there are others out there who haven’t heard about it either.
I know that begs to question of why exactly I would add it if there’s been no hype from it from what I’ve seen. Well, we all know how reading pretty hyped books goes. At least for the most part, it goes terribly wrong, and we typically hate it. At least it’s been that way for me.
So my reasoning is, why not add books that may not be as popular?
Here is what The Unmaking of June Farrow is about.
June lives in a small town in Jasper, North Carolina, and she’s waiting for her fate to find her. Her family is known for their beautiful flower farm. But they are also known for the curse that has followed their family line. The curse is what caused Susanna’s disappearance, which left June to be raised by her grandma. Ever since, rumors have followed her.
A year ago, June started hearing and seeing things that weren’t there. She’s been hearing wind chimes, someone calling her name, and a door appearing out of nowhere. June knew this was coming, but she’s determined to end the curse.
When her grandma dies, June finds cryptic clues about her mom’s disappearance. But now she has even more questions. Can the door she thought she hallucinated be the answer she has been looking for? When it shows back up again, she goes on a journey that will change everything.
A Discovery of Witches
A Discovery of Witches is another book that I kind of saw a lot of at one point. I swear, it seems like a lot of the books I’m finding are more along the lines of witchy books!
Not that there’s anything wrong with that anyway. I always love a good witch book.
Here is what A Discovery of Witches is about.
In the Oxford Bodleian Library, Diana calls up a bewitched alchemical manuscript for her research. She is the descendant of an old line of witches, but Diana doesn’t want anything to do with it. After taking a little glance and a few notes, she puts the book away. But her curiosity sets off the underworld, and now daemons, witches, and vampires are released in the library. She has come upon a treasure that has been lost for centuries, and she’s the only one who can break its spell.
Mexican Gothic (the ultimate fall readlist)
Mexican Gothic is another that’s been on my bookshelf for a while too. This one was getting a lot of hype there for a while.
This is another one of the ultimate fall reading list reads that was pretty hyped up there for a while and I wound up buying it because of said hype.
Here is what Mexican Gothic is about.
Noemi receives a letter from her cousin, who has just gotten married, and is begging for her help. But she’s a very unlikely rescuer. She’s smart and tough, but she’s also very glamorous. She’s not afraid, though. Not of her cousin’s husband or his father, even though they are very odd.
The only person who just might be able to help her is the family’s youngest son. He’s shy and gentle, yet he seems to want to help Noemi. Even though he wants to help, he also knows a lot about his family’s dark past.
The more she digs, the more she uncovers stories of violence and madness.
Bunny
I’ve heard that Bunny is one of the weirder books on this list! Not that it being weird is really a bad thing. I’m sure there are quiite a few of you who may like your books on the weird side.
Here is what Bunny is about!
Samantha is one of the biggest outsiders of her small and very selective MFA program at New England’s Warren University. She’s a scholarship student who would rather have the company of her dark imagination. But that’s because she’s repelled by the people around her, like the clique of rich girls who call each other bunny and talk as if they are one person.
Things change when she gets an invitation to the Bunnies’ smut salon. She finds herself drawn to their front door, and in return, she ditches her only friend. As she falls deeper into the Bunnies’ dark world, her reality starts to blur. That is, until her friendship with Ava and the Bunnies is brought together in a deadly force.
An Academy of liars (the ultimate fall reading list)
An Academy of Liars seem to be one of the more interesting books on the ultimate fall reading list. I know I’m probably not the only one who feels that way.
This is one that’s going to be right up your alley if you’re looking for some fall reads.
Here is what An Academy For Liars is about.
Lennon is falling apart.
She gets a mysterious call inviting her to take the entrance exam for Drayton College. It’s a school of magic that is hidden in Savannah. Lennon has been chosen because she has a gift of persuasion.
Once she passes the test, she starts to learn how to handle her unsettling power. Even though it’s taking a toll on her body, she is still enthralled with the school and her studies. But what really grabs her attention is her adviser, Dante.
The more she learns and takes control, she uncovers some disturbing information dealing with the school and the past of her adviser, Dante. She’s disturbed by what she finds out, but is this the ultimate test?
Haunted House Ghost (the ultimate fall reading list)
Thsi cover alone should tell you it definitely belongs on the ultimate fall reading list. It just screams fall reading.
I might just have to add this one to my TBR.
Here is what Haunted House Ghost is about.
It’s Halloween, and everyone is excited in Braxton. They are all ready to carve pumpkins, go on haunted hayrides, and find their way through the scary corn maze at the festival.
Even though they have been warned, Kellan fixes and moves into the mysterious old house. But then a ghost appears and ultimately leads him to the town historian and an eerie psychic. As the construction workers do their job, they wind up finding a fifty-year-old skeleton.
Soon, he finds out the history of the house, but can he capture the killer and help the revenge-seeking ghost?
Murder at the Pumpkin Pageant
Murder at the Pumpkin Pageant is another book that screams fall reading. I don’t know what it is about the cover but it seems to bring in a sense of nostalgia for me!
If you’ve read this one then let me know what you thought.
Here is what Murder at the Pumpkin Pageant is about.
Lindsey would much rather keep the Halloween decoration at her store light and fun, rather than gruesome and scary. Everyone around town knows that Lighthouse Home is haunted, though. There have even been some teens who have tried to break into her home for it. She is dreading Halloween night, but she gets talked into hosting a ghost hunting investigation of the home by her friend, Kennedy, who just so happens to be an influencer. She protects her ghostly roommate, and she’s a bit nervous about what they might dig up.
At first, things aren’t all that interesting, at least it’s not until things take a turn. Everyone freaks out except Kennedy. But she does join them outside, and as she does, she runs into a creepy clown costume hanging from a tree that looks like it belongs to some teenager. Once the costume is down, they realize it’s not filled with a dummy but an actual dead body.
They must keep their cool if they want to be able to solve the murder and see another Halloween.
The Late Night Witches
The cover alone screams that it should be added to the ultimate fall reading list. And yet again it’s another witchy book! I know I know there’s been a lot of them but there is a reason why so many people associate witches to fall reading.
Here is what The Late Night Witches is about.
Cassie’s life has never been magical. She has a wild younger sister, three crazy kids, and a husband who isn’t really there. So she’s not really looking forward to October. But at least the island where she lives is always quiet.
At least it was until vampires showed up.
As they break her grip on some normalcy, she is now forced to come face-to-face with her family secrets. That secret is her family’s legacy, their powers. It’s either use her power to get rid of the vampires or let them win. In her eyes, both options suck.
Now she has to learn what it takes to be a witch and to fight for the things that she loves before the clock runs out. On Halloween night, the stakes will be even higher. It’s up to Cassie to finish what the previous generations of witches have started.
Small Spaces
This is the only middle grade book on this fall reading list, but why why not include it? I know there are some adults who only focus on adult content while others read content for younger audiences.
Scary books for younger audiences have gotten so much better in recent years as well!
Here is what Small Spaces is about.
Eleven-year-old Ollie just suffered a major loss. The only way she’s able to find any sort of peace is by reading. When she runs into a crazy woman at the river, saying she’s going to throw a book in the water, Ollie just acts by taking the book and running away. Once she’s far enough away, she starts to read the book of a chilling story that follows a girl named Beth. She has two brothers who both love her, but she has a deal with “the smiling man.” He’s something sinister who grants your deep wishes, but for a price.
Ollie is enthralled by the book and barely puts it down until her school trip the next day to Smoke Hollow. But while she’s there, she just so happens to come across the graves of the very people she has been reading about. Are the books based on a true story? On the way back to the school, the bus breaks down and ultimately sends the teacher back to the farm to look for help. As they are waiting, the weird bus driver gives them advice that they’d better get moving. Otherwise, “they” will come get the rest of them. As nightfall approaches, Ollie’s watch, which she thought was broken, delivers a message: RUN:
Ollie and two other classmates listen to his warning and leave. They head out towards the woods, but the woods is bordered by scarecrows and they seem to be watching them. Before they leave, the bus driver only has one more piece of advice, and that’s to avoid large places and to keep it small. Now their adventure begins.
The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein
The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein is one of the more unique books of the ultimate fall reading list. It’s not completely unique obviously but it does put a unique twist to things.
Here is waht The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein is about.
Elizabeth hasn’t had a great meal in weeks. Her arms are thin and covered with bruises from the person taking “care” of her. She’s on the verge of being thrown out, until she’s brought to Victor Frankenstein’s home. He’s unsmiling, solitary, and has everything but a friend.
He’s got her out of living in misery. She does what she can to make herself needed, and it works. The Frankenstein family takes her in and gives her a warm bed, great food, and dresses made by the best. Eventually, she and Victor are inseparable.
Her life comes at a price. As time passes, her survival is very dependent on helping Victor’s dangerous temper. She has to entertain just about everything he comes up with. Even though she seems sweet behind her blue eye and smiles, she’s also very calculating and determined to stay alive.
Daisy Darker
Daisy Darker just screams family trauma and I know many of you may not like that. I had to include it anyways because it seems so good! What do you guys think?
Here is what Daisy Dark is abou.
Daisy and her family have been avoiding each other for years. But now they are getting together for her Nana’s 80th birthday party. It’s being held in her Nana’s crumbling gothic house on a small island. They are together one last time, and a tide comes in, cutting them off from the rest of the world for the next eight hours.
Each of the family members has a secret. At midnight, when the storm is at its worst, Nana is found dead. Then an hour later, there’s another family member who follows her demise…
They are trapped on an island, and someone is killing them off one by one. The family must come to terms with their secrets before they are all killed off.
