I think most of us readers don’t really stick to one genre. It’s hard to stick to the same thing all of the time, and it really and truly helps to change up what we’re reading. But when we’re reading books that have a little bit of the genres we read in one book tends to make things a lot more exciting. I’m a huge thriller fan. Not so much romance, though. But I do know there are a lot of you out there who really enjoy both. So that’s where the Romantic Thriller Books post was born.
Why shouldn’t we add a little bit of sweatner to the chaos? These sweet relationships aren’t always so sweet in most of these books, and it’s bound to take us on a wild ride! Romantic thriller books to read in 2026
There are so many romantic thriller books out there. Some of them are more of the thrilling side, but then others are a bit more on the sweet side. And maybe just maybe there are a few somewhere in between. Pretty much all of these books are highly, highly popular books, and I know some of them are bound to like one of them.
Verity
Verity is one book that I didn’t really know had a thriller side to it. Most of Colleen Hoover’s books, I assumed, were all romance, and I’ve refused to really pick them up for that reason.
However, just recently, I saw a preview for this book at the movie theater and realized that this is one that I think I want to pick up. Any of you Colleen Hoover fans? I would love to hear your thoughts on this one!
This is what Verity is about.
Lowen is a struggling writer and is so close to financial ruin. But then she takes on a job of a lifetime. Jeremy is the husband of the bestselling author Verity. He hired Lowen to finish the rest of the books in the successful series because his wife had been injured and was unable to finish them.
When she gets to her home, she’s ready to sort through the years of notes and outlines, hoping to get enough material to get started. But what she doesn’t expect to find is an unfinished autobiography that Verity didn’t intend for anyone to read. As she reads through it, she finds bone-chilling admissions, and that includes Verity’s memories of what really happened when her daughter died.
Once she finishes, she ultimately decides to keep it hidden from Jeremy, knowing it would devastate the grieving father. Her feelings for him start to grow, and she realizes that there are ways she could benefit from reading the autobiography. No matter how devoted he is to his wife, finding out the truth would make it impossible for him to stay.
Butcher and Blackbird
Butcher and Blackbird is one that I’ve tried to read. It was constantly on my radar there for a while, and I wanted to try it out. But…. I wound up not even finishing it.
I’m sure I didn’t give this one much of a chance. though. I kept trying and trying to read it, but only got so far before I started to get bored and wound up putting it down.
That might be different for one of you, though.

Mr. Perfect
Mr. Perfect is the only one on this list that I haven’t actually come across before. That could be because it came out a while ago, and it didn’t really come across my radar.
I do kind of want to pick this one up, though. It sounds interesting to me, as I’m sure it does to many of you. I just want to know why one of them would be killed over a checklist!

What makes the perfect man?
That’s a really hard topic for Jaine and her three friends as they are wondering about it one night at their favorite spot called Mr. Perfect. Is he tall, dark, and handsome? Or is he caring and warmhearted? Or would muscles do? Their conversation heats up, and they create a checklist that winds up becoming an overnight sensation.
It spreads like wildfire. What started as a joke turns into something serious and deadly when one of them is murdered. Jaine turns to her detective neighbor for help because she needs to find the killer and save herself and her friends. She doesn’t know who to trust or who to love, and now all that matters is survival as the vision of Mr. Perfect turns into a nightmare.
The boyfriend
Freida McFadden is an author who has been really on the rise lately. And you know what? I’m guilty of still not reading any of her books yet.
If I’m honest, I’m scared to. Her books are so hyped up and popular that I’m worried I’m going to be disappointed with them. I’m just going to have to bite the bullet and read one of her books anyway.
Here is what The Boyfriend is about.
Sydney is pretty much like every single woman in New York and has horrible luck with dating. She’s seen just about everything: some men lie on their dating profile, men who want her to pay the dinner bill, and weird men that won’ shut up about their mothers. Then she finally hits the jackpot.
Her new boyfriend is perfect. He fits all of the checkboxes and works as a doctor at a local hospital. She is head over heels.
But then there’s a terrible murder of a young woman. She was one in the many string of deaths along the coast. The primary suspect is a “mystery” man who dates the women before he kills them.
She should feel safe, especially since she’s dating the man of her dreams. But she has a nagging feeling and suspicions that the so-called perfect man she’s dating isn’t so perfect after all. Someone is following her every move, and if she doesn’t figure out what’s going on, then she just might be the next victim.
My Killer Vacation (romantic thriller books)
Just by the cover alone, My Killer Vacation seems to be one of those romantic thriller books that seems to be one of the more cutesy ones rather than a full-on thriller.
I still wanted to add this one, though, just in case one of you wanted a more romantic focus on it.
Here is what My Killer Vacation is about.
The harsh bounty hunter and the energetic elementary school teacher are the murder solving team that no one has asked for. They are stuck with each other, though.
Taylor and her brother were supposed to be on a relaxing vacation in sunny Cape Cod. When they find a corpse in their rental house, they are thrown for a loop, and it throws their vacation out of whack. Now there’s a rude bounty hunter who has come to try to catch the person’s killer. But he refuses to believe that Taylor can be helpful in any way. But she has experience with listening to hours of listening to true crime podcasts.
Myles only wants to do his job, not have to babysit an amateur who thinks she can help. Then it becomes less hard to have her around. She’s stubborn, distracting, and can’t stay out of the way, but she’s also brave, beautiful, and in a way reminds him of home. The things that she’s awakening are a threat to his peace of mind. Before things get any deeper, he needs to find this killer before something terrible happens.
The Perfect Marriage
The Perfect Marriage is one that I read maybe a year or so ago. I enjoyed this one a lot more than I did The Perfect Divorce. The ending was a little bit obvious, and it still made me mad.
I highly suggest this as one of the romantic thriller books that you pick, even though it is more thriller-focused.
Here is what The Perfect Marriage is about.
Sarah is a very successful and powerful defense attorney. She’s one of the youngest partners at her firm at just 33 years old, and all of that is going according to plan.
That can’t be said for her husband, Adam, though. He’s a writer and doesn’t have much success right now. And now he’s starting to get tired of his relationship with Sarah, as she’s always working.
When he’s at their second home in secluded woods, he winds up having an affair with Kelly Summers.
Then everything changes when Adam is arrested for her murder. She’s been found stabbed to death in their second home.
Now Sarah finds herself defending her own cheating husband.

A lot of books seem to include a combination of different genres, all fleshed out into one book nowadays. There’s nothing wrong with that at all. In fact, it does seem to make things much more interesting.
