Old [movie review]: M. Night Shyamalan

About the movie OLD

Old follows a group of families that go on vacation to a place that they have never heard of. It’s a place that popped up on all of their computers and they ultimately decided to go. At first, it’s a fun trip where the kids make new friends. But when the resort owner sends the family to a private beach things ultimately go wrong. The kids start to age and ultimately the grown-up do too but they don’t realize it at first. Will the family be able to escape? You can find the movie trailer here.

Rating: 1 out of 5.

What I thought of Old:

So the premise of old actually sounds really good. I love mystery/thriller types of movies and always enjoy going to see them. But I should’ve known better since this movie is by M. Night Shyamalan. His movies are either really good or really bad and there is absolutely no in-between. So, why did I go see the movie? Well, I thought the movie sounded interesting and thought I would give M. Night Shyamalan another shot.

What’s wrong with the movie?

Honestly, everything is wrong with the movie. But I’m going to start with the acting. A lot of the acting in the movie is really shotty and awkward. It almost makes me wonder if this was their first major motion picture or if they were directed to be awkward. If they were directed that way then those that worked on the movie really need to reconsider how they do things from here on out.

Even though the acting wasn’t all that great I don’t really think the dialogue was any better. The dialogue did not flow well at all and there were times some of the characters would say some of the most random things at random times. This made the story even weirder.

Other than the awkwardness of the story the plot wasn’t that great either. There just wasn’t a lot going on and some of the character’s reactions just didn’t make any sense. On top of that, I kind of figured there would be some sort of crazy ending, but it’s not as exciting as some viewers are saying it is. At least it wasn’t to me. I think I would have loved this movie so much more if was done by someone else.

Do any of you guys like M. Night Shyamalan’s movies?
