Jayshree can count on three things happening at the family reunion. 1. Her cousins will forget she exists. 2. Her aunts will try to set her up. 3. Her uncles will get into a fight. But what she doesn’t expect is that an accident happens, leading her Grandma into a coma. It turns the reunion into complete chaos, and the more Jay learns, the more she realizes that what happened may not have been an accident. The closer she gets to finding answers, the more she realizes her place in the family. Can Jay figure out who the traitor is while finding her voice?
What I thought
I’m so excited about getting to read My Killer Family Reunion because I really enjoy reading a good mystery and thriller. The pacing is pretty fast, and it doesn’t take much to want to know what’s going to happen next.
I really like Jayshree’s character, and in some regards I’m able to relate to her a bit. It’s mostly regarding feeling invisible and trying to keep the peace. I don’t know how many times I have been told to keep the peace. I’ve always struggled with standing up for myself. So, I was really proud of her for standing up for herself in the book.
There’s a little something that happens to one of her aunts in front of the whole family. I know this is a completely random aspect of the story since it isn’t the main point of it, but I love the way things turn out for the particular aunt. Some bad things have happened to her, and she finally refused to stop letting it happen, which a lot of women don’t do. I have to admit I pretty much love most of her family with how understanding they are and how they believe Jay. They trust her and are willing to do anything for her.
My only thing is that the lengths her family went to set her up with someone were a little weird to me. Maybe it’s a cultural thing since I’m not completely familiar with their way of handling things, or maybe it was just her family in general. They were just super extra with all of it, and I’ve never come across a family like that before.
The only other downside is that I was able to partially guess what was going to happen. By the end of the story, I pretty much guessed who at least one of the “bad guys” was. It was so much of a surprise.
Overall, the book was really good though, and I wound up really liking it despite the few things that stood out to me. I can’t wait to read more books by Dinesh Thiru!
