About Mister Magic

Mister Magic takes place thirty years after a bad accident that closed down the production of Mister Magic. This is a very beloved children’s show that a lot of kids still love. The five cast members who have survived are going to have to try and move on despite loving it. Years later, there is still a cult of fans that cling to the show. The kids who were on the show have been struggling to find the same happiness that they felt while they were on it.

No matter how hard anyone searches for the show, no one can find a single episode and not a single bit of evidence about the show or who worked on it behind the scenes.

When circumstances bring the actors back together where the show was filmed, it feels like the area has been waiting for them. They haven’t seen each other in years, but they still understand each other so much better than anyone else has over the years.

As the friends catch up with one another, they start to wonder if they are there by choice or if they were lured there.

What I thought

I picked up this book partly because of the cover and partly because of the description. I love a good book that deals with nostalgia, and I think nostalgia is becoming popular today.

However, Mister Magic dropped the ball for me. It’s completely underwhelming and not at all what I was expecting. Some parts of the story thrown in between chapters are really confusing, and I just don’t get why they were added to the book. It served no purpose to the overall story.

On top of that, I went into the story thinking there was going to be more supernatural suspense, but there wasn’t a lot, and the little that was in it wasn’t explained. To be honest, I kind of wish I had DNFed the book.

Mister Magic is one of those slow-burning books that tries its hardest to make it atmospheric, and in some areas, it does, but it’s not enough to save the story. Honestly, I’m not even sure what exactly happened because a lot is glossed over. The premise of the story is very promising, but it was done completely wrong (for me). With that being said, this story is also being marketed as horror. The description makes it sound like horror as well. It has horror elements to it, but I don’t consider it true horror. But maybe on the thriller side.

Mister Magic had so much potential and could have turned out great. Instead, the story and the characters lacked luster and were honestly not very memorable to me. Lesson learned: I need to stop getting books with awesome covers because, in reality, the cover is a lot better than the actual story.
