About Incidents Around the House

Incidents Around the House is about a young girl who is friends with another mommy, but the other mommy is otherworldly and wants to be inside Bela’s heart. As Bela and her family try to escape, they are only followed and scared. They can’t get away from the other mommies because she is determined to get what she wants.

What I thought

I’m not completely sure how I feel about Incidents Around the House. I love the concept, and I love that it was told from the girl’s point of view rather than just the parents’. However, I don’t like that Josh wrote it as if the child wrote the book. A part of me understands why he did that, but that aspect wasn’t really for me.

A part of me wishes we had a little more of the other mother and also a better description of her. Since we’re getting the child’s POV, her description is kind of vague.

Incidents around the house did a really good job evoking some emotions out of me, for starters. For starters, I hated the mother. She is a very selfish woman. I felt really bad for Bela. It’s no wonder she didn’t have any friends and all of this happened to her.

With that being said, the story is pretty fast-paced and really able to keep your interest. The story is creepy and makes you wonder what’s going to happen next. I do have to say that the ending kind of made me mad, but I love a good book that’s able to get some sort of emotion out of me.

For me, the story is 3 out of 5 stars. It’s worth checking out if you like sinister books revolving around kids.
