So, how to build a reading routine without the burnout?
Sometimes one of the hardest things to do is creating a routine. At least it is for me. There’s so much to do in the day, and I really and truly tend to get distracted a lot.
I have to admit that I’m a self-proclaimed ADHDer. Distractions happen very often for me, and I do tend to constantly get distracted by my phone. Yes, I know, how could I do that?

I know that distractions are a very common thing, though. Plus, it seems like phones are attached to most of our hips. I get distracted by my phone all of the time, so it has been hard for me to build a reading habit.
How to start reading daily
If you truly want to develop a reading habit, the best way to start is by reading daily. You can’t make a habit out of it if you don’t implement it at least a little bit every day.
I know a lot of you are probably pretty busy, especially if you’re a mom trying to find the time to read. How to build a reading habit can be quite easy or hard for you, depending on how much you have on your plate.
Many of these tips are ideal for developing reading habits for beginners and for those who are busy.
A good place to start is to get up early. I know, I know, this is something that is suggested quite often, but there’s a reason for that. I’ve been doing this for a while, and it really helps. I know if you work night shift or an early shift at work, if you work, then this is something that isn’t going to help. But if you have control over your schedule, don’t work until later, or are a stay-at-home mom, then this truly helps.
Setting up a daily reading habit
A good way to do this is to make sure you put your book where it is easily visible. If you don’t see it, then it’s one of those situations where it’s out of sight, out of mind. It’s this way for me, and I know it’s probably this way for a lot of people, too.
So, a good way to make sure you read more and to be able to create a reading habit is to put the book where you can see it.
Implement reading into your downtime. I know this sounds like a no-brainer, but I don’t think many people realize how much time they are actually spending on their phones. Sometimes we tend to distract ourselves, and we don’t realize that we are even doing it. I know that I do quite often.
So, make sure you’re incorporating reading into your downtime whenever and wherever you can. Whether you’re at a doctor’s appointment in the waiting room or you’re just sitting down to relax a little bit.
Conclusion on how to build a reading routine
Building a routine or a habit can sometimes be hard. Are you pretty busy with work, school, parenting, or a combination of these? It can almost seem impossible to get any sort of reading done. If you’re struggling to get any reading done because of kids, then there’s a good chance you’re able to read before they wake up, after they go to sleep, or during nap time.
If you’re working, then it could be done before you go in, depending on whether you go to work at a manageable time. Also, you can get a little bit of it done during your break time.
Creating a reading routine needs to be intentional, and it may take some tweaking. Just make sure to keep trying until you find what works for you!
