Why do we self-sabotage?

Before 2026 started, I had planned out how I wanted things to go. I wrote down all the goals I wanted to accomplish and broke them down into smaller, more manageable goals that I can work towards. Let’s just say that technically I’ve already failed. I haven’t been following my goal plan like I’ve been hoping to do. We’ve been eating out a lot this month and I’m still struggling to put my phone down and away from me. You can find my goals here. I haven’t been on top of it like I should be to get myself healthier physically and mentally. Hopefully, I’m not the only one in this boat. But why exactly do we self-sabotage ourselves?

Self-sabotaging ourselves is why we struggle to accomplish goals. It’s why we struggle to get out of the house. It’s also why we struggle to do fun things on our own or sometimes even with people.

Why do we Self-Sabotage?

Self-sabotage meaning and what is self-sabotaging behavior

What exactly does self-sabotage mean? Self-sabotaging behavior is the action or the inaction that chips away at your progress and prevents you don’t accomplish your goals.

But why exactly do we do this to ourselves?

Why do we self-sabotage?

There are so many reasons for this. For me, it’s because I’m scared. What if I fail? What if someone makes fun of me? I’ve been wanting to kind of become an influencer on social media, but I’m scared. I’m not only scared of failing, but I’m also making myself fail. I say I want to do something, but I turn around and not do it.

There are many of you who probably feel the same way. Failing and embarrassment are some of the top feelings when trying to accomplish goals. We could self-sabotage because of low self-esteem. It happens a lot, and it happens to me a lot.

It would be great if we could change this this year!

Conclusion to self-sabotaging

Self-sabotaging is a very common thing. It happens to a lot of people, and it’s the number one reason why we don’t accomplish our goals or the things that we want to do.

It’s time to let all of that negativity go. It’s time to push yourself to a version of yourself that you want to get to. No more excuses as to why you didn’t do it or why you can’t do it. If any of you want a buddy with any of this, then let me know! I know I need it, and I’m sure many of you do too!
