About Wake up and Open Your Eyes

Noah has been losing his parents to the far-right news for years. When his mom leaves a voicemail saying the “great reawakening” is here. He assumes that it’s one of the conspiracy theories she believes. When his phone call goes unanswered, he makes the trip to Virginia to their parents’ house. When he gets there, he sees that his childhood home is in shambles and their food is spoiled. His parents are in a terrifying trance. As he tries to help them, his mom attacks him. What Noah doesn’t know is that these acts of violence are happening everywhere.

What I thought

So, I have been seeing this book all over the place on horror groups and TikTok. I have only read one of Clay’s other books, and I wasn’t a huge fan of it. It wasn’t terrible, but I just wasn’t all that interested. I have to say that I’m really glad that I gave this one a chance. Typically, I don’t like reading anything revolving around politics. Books are my escape.

I know having something go viral and making everyone “sick” probably isn’t anything ne,w but it is new for me anyway. I have to say that I loved it too. This story is all sorts of creepy. It’s fast-paced and does a great job keeping your interest.

The idea of something like this happening is pretty scary. A good chunk of us are addicted to screens, so if this were to happen, I think all of us would be screwed.

The characters are very well done. We get Noah’s point of view and his brother’s family’s point of view. I really liked having that. They are all very well done, too. They are realistic and believable. I do have to say that the brother’s family’s perspective is quite creepy. Things happened slowly for them, and the fact that they had no idea they were changing.

I’m going to admit it, though… The ending of this book kind of pissed me off. Just ugh, why? This book would, in fact, be a very good movie adaptation, and I feel a lot of people would. So glad that I wound up picking this book up.
