About The October Boys
The October Boys follows four kids who are out trick or treating. They are having the best time. That is until they hear the ice cream truck music. How weird is that? In the middle of fall, to have an ice cream truck at this time of year. That is, until one of them gets taken away. Years later, they are all grown and still tortured about it. But now the ice cream man is back, and he’s come for the three remaining friends. Will they be able to survive it again?
What I thought
I found The October Boys through TikTok, where someone said it was one of the scariest books that they have ever read. Part of me did wind up getting a little disappointed with it. It’s been a long time since I have gotten scared over anything, book or movie-wise. So I was kind of hoping that this would be the one.
I do have to say that the story is pretty fast-paced. Also, Adam seems to have a great writing style as well. This books is pretty fast paced and kept my attention for a good long while which is great considering my attention span has been crap lately.
Even though I didn’t get scared in the story, I still really like it. I think if it weren’t for the way Adam wrote, I may not have enjoyed it so much. Maybe.
Whoever did the cover did a great job! I know it’s ridiculous, but I always tend to judge a book by its cover. I know I shouldn’t, but a very visual person, and that’s what grabs my attention about the book in the first place.
There’s one thing I wish we, as readers, would have gotten more of is the actual monster. I guess what I was hoping for a little bit is more of a description of the monster. I guess what I was hoping a little bit more of a description of the monster and maybe a little more background on him, too. Even though there are a few things I didn’t like, the book is still really good. Even the characters were believable and distinct enough to be able to tell a difference when the POV’s throughout the story.
