About The Night Singers
Callie has landed her dream job by landing a ghost writer job on a memoir of her old musician crush, Riff. When she gets to his masion on an island, she realizes that there’s something much deeper to his story. For a while now, there have been rumors surrounding his existence and the disappearance of his wife years ago. Staying with him to get his story, she has to follow his rules and never leave after dark. She thinks it’s ridiculous at first, but then things start to take a sinister turn.
What I thought
I picked up The Night Singer because it really sounded interesting to me. Well, I’m going to be honest, it is the cover that grabbed my attention to start with, but the synopsis kind of reminded me of an episode of Supernatural, and I knew right away that I had to pick the book up.
I’m really glad that I got this one, too, because it kept my attention. The book was well written, and the characters were too. The characters are actually pretty believable and jump off the page. I can actually imagine them being real people. They aren’t flat in any way, and their dialogue seemed realistic in a way that it wasn’t awkward or stunted. I feel like Callie and Riff had a lot of chemestry and I know if I were her, I would have been freaking out about getting to interview my childhood crush.
I was pretty much invested in it the entirety of it. The story has a pretty fast pace as well. To me, The Night Singers kind of has an interesting twist to it when it comes to sirens. For starters, there’s the fact that they are called night singers. I’m pretty sure that I’ve never heard of them called that before, so having Riff on an island where the locals have their own name and lore for them is pretty cool to me.
Before now, I don’t think I’ve read a book that had anything about sirens before, horror or not. Now I realize that I want to find more. I mean, not only do I want to find more I have to find more. That’s all because of The Night Singers book.
I’m glad the book ended with a happy ending as well. However, I do wish things had gone a certain way with Riff and Callie since they had such a great connection. Now, when it comes to Callie and her father, I’m really surprised with how that went!
