About The Debutantes
The Les Masques Ball is the event of the year, at least for the New Orleans elite. They are about to have their event again, and everyone is excited, as long as they don’t have to deal with another dead queen. This year, Lily is the queen, and everything is going okay until it’s hijacked by someone in a jester costume. That night, she sends a text to Vivian, Piper, and April.
They have no idea why Lily brought them together, but when they go to find her, she’s gone. The police are labeling her as a runaway, but the three girls know otherwise. Can they figure out what happened to her?
What I thought
I managed to get an advanced copy of The Debutantes, and I’m so glad that I did. Of course, it’s the cover that attracted me to the book. After reading the synopsis, I wasn’t completely sure if this would be my jam, even though I do like YA thrillers. I think what was crossing my mind is, do I want to read a book about richer people? But I’m so glad that I wound up requesting the book.
I don’t know what it is about rich people, but I feel like their lives are so much more interesting than they want us to believe. Granted, I’m sure they do have some boring days, but their lives are so much more interesting than we might think. Not only that, but it seems like they probably have a life full of secrets. In The Debutants, this story is full of rich people with secrets. Yikes.
The story is pretty realistic. This is something that I can imagine happening in this day and age. Rich people, especially rich people in the south, seem to be so stuck in their ways and so… oblivious to anyone but themselves. They don’t care about those around them, not even their closest friends. The Debutantes is a fast-paced novel and is completely worth reading if you like to read YA thrillers. Especially fast-paced YA thrillers.
