About The Cul-De-Sac

The Cul-De-Sac follows Klaus, Peg, Alex, and Eliza.

They all live in the same neighborhood, but they don’t know each other. Peg and Alex are friendly with one another, but they don’t truly know one another. Neither of them knows who Klaus is or anyone else in the neighborhood.

Klaus is a veteran serial killer. He’s feeling the itch to kill again, but he wants this to be his last one. Unfortunately, like many retirements, this one isn’t sticking. No one has ever suspected him of killing anyone, that is, not until his next victim winds up close to home.

Peg is widowed and has been living on the cul-de-sac for a while now. She’s lonely and wants to try putting her best foot forward in getting back into the world. Where is a better place to start than by “mothering” the new neighbor’s teenager, Eliza?

Unfortunately for Peg, Eliza would much rather hang out with the hermit next door. She’s over at his house frequently since he’s helping her pass math, but Alex wishes they would disappear and leave him alone.

The closer the three of them get, the more things start to unravel in the neighborhood.

What I thought

The Cul-De-Sac is a book that I got an advanced copy of, and I just had to get my hands on it. First off, the cover caught my eye. It’s a very eerie cover and makes you realize that there’s something very unsettling about the neighborhood.

The story follows multiple POVs, the killer, and multiple of his neighbors. The plot of the story makes you question how well you know your neighbors. In fact, I feel like some of the people in this story because I honestly don’t know my neighbors at all. There are quite a few around me that I don’t even know their names. So who knows if we have a serial killer next door?

I’m going to start by saying that I enjoyed The Cul-De-Sac. But I do have to say that some parts of the story kind of dragged out a bit, and I wish the pacing was a little faster in those parts.

BUT! With that being said, I still really enjoyed the story. There are a couple of twists in the story that caught me off guard and were very well done. I loved how the book ended, but I’m also a bit mad about it, too. I can’t help wanting to know what exactly happened. I’m just going to leave it at that because I don’t want to spoil it for anyone else.

There is one thing I’m curious about. For the most part, I thought serial killers were psychopaths and didn’t feel any sort of attachment to anyone. So it was interesting that the serial killer in this story was able to connect with someone in a way.

But I was on a rollercoaster ride with this one by trying to figure out how the characters connected and what was going to happen next. The fast-paced parts kept you on your toes, wondering what was going to happen next.
