Setting goals and systems to make 2026 much more successful

Setting goals is something that I have been doing for years. I started doing it in high school. It’s something that I haven’t been able to stop doing, and I wish that I had kept all of the goals that I have written over the years so I could keep track of them. I have found a way to do that, though. However, I do know that I haven’t been able to accomplish much on my lists over the years.

setting goals

So many people write new years resolutions before or on January 1. Then there is a huge percentage of people who quit by January 31, if not before. So many people want to accomplish things, but can’t manage to get past the first month of the year to accomplish them.

If you are tired of setting goals but then never accomplishing any of them, then it’s time for you to start setting systems. A lot of people never seem to break their goals down. All they see is this really huge goal that they wrote down, and they don’t even know where to start.

Types of goals

There are so many types of goals that you can set out for 2026. There are different parts of your life that you can set goals for. There’s health, mental health, financial, creativity, business, and growth. There are actually a lot more types of goals that you can set.

We typically put goals in just a few parts of our lives, and that’s okay. When you are setting goals for yourself for 2026, you need to make sure to set goals towards parts of your life that you are truly unhappy with. Setting goals for areas of your life that you aren’t necessarily unhappy with, then they are more than likely not going to work for you.

Example of setting goals

I think pretty much everyone knows how to set goals. At least for the most part. But here’s an example, one of my goals for this year is to lose fifty pounds. I’ve broken that down even further and wrote down that I want to lose four pounds each month so that I can stay on track with it.

The basics of goal setting

The basics of goal-setting would be to think about the areas of your life that you are truly unhappy with. We basically want to make ourselves fuller and work on the areas that we have been truly neglecting. What has been making you sad or feel bad? That’s where you need to put your focus without deterring away from some aspects of life that you are happy with.

This is where we truly need to work on creating a system so we aren’t neglecting parts of ourselves that are hurting, but also neglecting the side of us that we are actually happy with. So, I feel like everyone needs some sort of plan on ways to not overwhelm themselves, and try to keep up with things.

Goal-setting systems that work

Some goal setting systems that work is creating goals that you can actually track and break down. It’s not a goal that you can’t break down into smaller chunks and slowly start to accomplish. This helps with the overwhelm that I feel like a lot of us get into when we make our goals. What’s the rush in accomplishing the goals completely in a month? I think that’s just setting us up for failure, and are we truly learning what we want to if we’re just rushing through it?

I don’t think we’re truly accomplishing anything if we’re just rushing through things just to rush through them. That’s just not going to get you anywhere.

If you’re looking for something to help you track your goals, then I highly suggest using Notion. I’ve managed to create a template on there where I can break the goals down and have a progress bar so I can see how far I’m going!

Conclusion to goal setting

As you’re sitting down writing your goals, this would be a good time to actually look back at the past year. Think about the times you have been sad or the times you have been happy, so you can do more of that again in 2026. I feel like a lot of us put so much pressure on it instead of making things easier.

Setting your goals should ultimately be fun and not something you’re doing just for the heck of it.

If you need a notebook to write them in, then you can find some good ones here. If you want more posts like this, then you can find them here.
