About Oona Out of Order
Oona Out of Order follows Oona. It is New Year’s Eve and she’s about to turn nineteen. She has her whole life ahead of her and she’s excited about it. But when the clock strikes twelve she finds herself waking up the next day. She feels different and when she looks in the mirror she realizes that she’s in an older version of herself. It’s a shock and she’s scared. She only gets a year in this body and on New Year’s she’s off to a new version of herself.
What I thought
I’m grateful I found out about Oona Out of Order. I was lucky I was able to find out about it because this isn’t the type of book I typically read. It all started when I looked up books that were being made into movies this year. Granted I’m not fully sure if this one is going to get a movie or not this year. There are so many books to movies that don’t have announced dates yet.
I have always loved books that deal with time travel or where the main character repeats a day. They are interesting to me and make me wonder what I would do if I were put in a situation like this.
The story follows Oona who wakes up every new year in her body but at a different age. This would be a scary situation for me and I’m not sure how I would feel if I were to be put in a situation like this. I would hate the idea of being uprooted from friends and family most of my life and not fully know what happened to them. I do have to admit that it would be a cool idea.
My only issue is that the year she lives at a certain age it seems to go by pretty fast. I just wish at least one of the years was a little more detailed. I may be alone in this but we only got so much of her troubles this put her through. It’s hard not to want so much more.
I think another thing I would have liked really well is how she was able to get people to believe her. What exactly does she tell them to get them to believe what she says? There’s just a little bit of information I wish we would have gotten throughout the story.
Otherwise I actually really enjoyed the story. It’s very well-written and paced. I actually really like Oona granted I wish we could have gotten some answers on her condition. I have so many questions about what was going on with her. The surprises toward the ending were great too.
