Welcome to Owl Book World, where we talk about books, and now we’re expanding to talk about things in the world. I’ve always wanted to talk about more than just books, and here I am finally starting to. Today, I wanted to talk about how we feel comfortable in our own skin.
For as long as I can remember, I have not felt comfortable in my own skin. I wear clothes that are huge on me. I don’t wear a lot of makeup, and I try my best to not be seen. It’s gotten to the point where I’m not okay with this anymore. I don’t want to be this unconfident person or the super introverted and awkward person that I have always been.
What made me realize I want to change
Recently attended an author event near me for a very popular author. I went to see Grady Hendrix, and I wound up having to go on my own because, unfortunately, I don’t really have friends. I didn’t want to talk myself out of going because I always do that, but as soon as I got there, I started to regret it. When I started to panic a little because it was a pretty full event where every seat was taken up, and I had to sit next to strangers.
On top of that, I went to go get the book personalized, and I wound up putting my foot in my mouth. And what made the event even more stressful is that I was in a city that I’ve been to, but this city is so big, and I’ve never been on this side of town. My phone wasn’t working because Verizon had a nationwide system failure, so if something were to go wrong, I wasn’t able to get ahold of anyone.
This partly stems from being uncomfortable with myself as well. I’m not comfortable in my own skin, and it reflects in the activities that I go and do. So, how do we get to a place where we feel comfortable with ourselves?
Being comfortable with yourself
I know many of you probably feel uncomfortable in your own skin, just like I do. I’m sure it probably sucks for you. You’re probably finally at a point where you want to break free and do things out of character. But how do we do that?
It’s time to break free of being uncomfortable with yourself. Our lives are short, and we shouldn’t live our lives in fear anymore. But how do we start feeling comfortable with ourselves?
Well, for starters, we have to write out our goals and write where we want our end goal to be. Just don’t write down things that are impossible to change. Your goals should be things you’re actually able to change. Not happy with your weight? Then that is a goal to work on. Have a condition that can’t nothing can seem to get rid of, or at least change or help it? Well, that’s something you’re going to have to change your mindset on.
A good place to start is by changing what you can. Not that you have to change yourself, but I feel like if you’re uncomfortable with yourself, then there’s a reason. I know change sucks, but sometimes it’s well worth it.
For me, I’m uncomfortable with my weight, and I’m uncomfortable with how awkward I am. So, how do I change this? Well, I need to lose weight, and I need to work on getting out more and actually talking to people. This will help me stop being so awkward, and losing the weight will actually help me feel comfortable with myself and in my own skin.
Conclussion to how do we feel comfortable in our skin
I know I’ve said this before, but using a journal can help with this.
Later on, if you guys want a post about it, I might go into more details with some of the popular reasons why we might feel uncomfortable with ourselves and how we can change them. Sometimes, when you’re in your own world, it can be hard to figure out what the solutions are for our problems. I don’t know how many times I’ve had an issue with myself, but I couldn’t figure out what I needed to do to change that.
So, how do we feel comfortable in our own skin? Well, we need to change things up, and I know that most of you are going to groan about that, but if we’re content, then nothing is going to change. You will always be uncomfortable in your own skin if you change nothing.
Now, how are you going to change?
