How to make 2026 your year

Over the past couple of years, I feel as if I’ve been just strolling through life. I can’t remember the things that I’ve done, and I’m going to be honest, I don’t really like how the past two years have been going. I’ve been stressed, overeating, not feeling that great, and just overall disassociating most of the days that pass by. It’s honestly making me mad and a little bit sad at the same time. My two kids are young, and these years don’t last very long. I want to make the most of these years and not grow old and have to tell them I don’t know, I don’t remember that. So what are some ways on how to make 2026 your year if you’ve kind of been in the same boat?

Let me tell you, there’s actually a lot that we can do to change our lives and make sure 2026 is your year.

Reflection on 2025

If you’re anything like me and have wound up disassociating the last year, then how exactly are you supposed to reflect on the last year? I know I feel the same way. I didn’t really keep track of my goals. I don’t remember what I even wrote down for that matter, and I been spending a lot of this year writing them and then losing them.

But these are good things to talk about when it comes to your reflections on 2025. Even if you don’t remember a whole lot then talk about that. Why don’t you remember a whole lot? If you were dissociating a lot, then why were you doing that? Things don’t change if you don’t talk (or write) about what’s going on. That’s at least the first step of it because it will let you in how your past year is going. This is a great way to allow you to write down how to make 2026 your year and some things that you want to change.

I know working on reflections on the past year can seem a little silly, but talking about it or writing about it can truly help with figuring out what you want out of your year.

Set Clean goals on how to make 2026 your year

What exactly are clean goals? They are goals that you are clear on. They are ones that you feel strongly about. Basically, don’t write down goals just for the sake of writing them down. I feel like so many people write down certain goals just because everyone else is writing them down, too. If you aren’t honest with yourself, then you’ll only be setting yourself up for failure in 2026.

Just make sure that your goals are clear, and you’ll be able to break them down. If you aren’t able to break it down to smaller peices then maybe you need to get a little clearer about what exactly you want.

Break those goals down

If you write down a big goal and don’t break it down, then they can get a bit overwhelming. A great way to actually figure out how you can go about accomplishing your goals for once is by breaking them down on what managable goals for each month. If you want to lose fifty pounds like I am, then I have broken that down to four pounds per month. I know some of you will probably want to lose more a month, but losing weight slowly really helps it stick. Not always, but a good number of people keep it off if they lose it slowly but steadily.

All of your goals should be broken down like this. This is a great way to make 2026 your year because you are cutting things down into small, manageable bites.

Learn, Learn, Learn

Learn? Pft, why would we spend this year learning? I’m sure most of us are out of school at this point and spent many years learning things. But learning is a great thing. Learning is something that can help your brain tremendously. It helps your brain get endorphins once you learn it. Plus, learning new things is something that can help your mind stay young.

Focus on your well-being

I’m guilty of this. I focus on my kids a lot and make sure that they are good. Don’t get me wrong, it definitely needs to be this way to an extent. But we need to start focusing on our well being. Why? If we aren’t happy, then nothing in the house is going to be happy. Do you know the saying happy wife, happy life? Well, this is basically the same concept.

Your well-being is very important. If you aren’t in a good place, then you probably aren’t taking care of yourself very well. Your house is probably in disarray at least to some extent. I’m by no means saying that your house is terrible (unless it is, of course), but I know that we aren’t fully keeping things up to our capability if we don’t take care of our well being.

Have gratitude

This is something that I need to work on as well, and I know I’m not alone. In the past two years, I have found myself getting into a negative mindset. When we’re in this sort of mindset, it’s hard to have any sort of positivity. I know I’m struggling with that right now. There are so many things out there that we should be grateful for. Things are so much better than we are actually seeing, but when we get into these funks, our brain puts up blinders.

That needs to change. It’s time to start writing down things you’re thankful for. It can be small, like I’m grateful for this meal that I’m able to have. Starting off, it’s hard to see through those blinders, and I know it can make it hard to show gratitude. Just start small because at least that will get you somewhere until your mind starts to open up.

Surround yourself with positivity

I’ve noticed that the more negative people I’m around, the more negative I am. If I’m not surrounding myself with hardly anyone at all, then I still have that negative mindset as well because I’m getting too much into my head and bringing myself down. This is something that I have noticed quite a bit about myself this year. With that being said, one of my goals is to make friends this year, so I won’t be like this.

And I don’t want to hear you say that you’re an introvert and you don’t like being around people, because trust me, I’ve been there and done that. Even though socializing and making friends are hard, it also brings us a lot of joy and make us feel like we have a sense of belonging.

Attend Events on how to make 2026 your year

If you’re anything like me, then you probably talk yourself out of doing things. That is something that is going to change for me this year because I know this is a great way to make memories. This also breaks up your year and makes you have something to look forward to. I’m hoping that by doing this, it will help me stop dissociating my years and forgetting everything that happens. I don’t like it, and it basically tells me that I’m not enjoying my life at all, and I want that to change.

Conclusion on how to make 2026 your year

There are so many things that all of us can do this year to change our lives around. It’s time to start changing our lives around and actually living the way that we want to, without worrying about every little thing. We all deserve to be happy and to have a life that we actually remember.

A good notebook to keep track of your goals can be found here. I’ll add my 2026 goals here a little later, but here are my goals from last year until I can update them.
