I feel like so many people have been falling out of love with reading. It usually happens around high school and college, mostly because you are forced to read things you have no interest in. It sucks to be forced to read things that you don’t even like to begin with. With me, there have been times when I fell out of love with reading because of the online book space. I feel like I’m not reading enough or that I don’t have enough books, so there is a lot of self-comparison. So, what are some ways to fall in love with reading again?
I think it’s time to stop paying attention to other people and start falling in love with reading again.
Falling in love with reading again
So, how do we start falling in love with reading again? First off, I would start thinking about why you fell in love with reading to begin with. I’m sure you probably aren’t interested in the same books that you were interested in when you first started reading. Or maybe you are still interested in them. But was reading at that time just casual? You felt like you didn’t get judged for the books that you read?
Or maybe you are chronically online and see how much people are reading, or the fact that they are getting tons of books. I know that has made me fall out of love with reading quite a few times. I’m pretty sure that’s partly why I haven’t been reading as much over the past year or so.
So, what are some ways on how to fall in love with reading again?
My suggestion would be to stop getting on social media for recommendations. Maybe some of you have a little bit of self-control with this, but if you’re anything like me, then you probably fall down a rabbit hole, and that’s where it leads to a downfall.
I feel like social media has been the downfall of a lot of hobbies and has been making people excessively buy. At least it has with me, and now I have a ton of books to read, and I feel like I have no time to read them. I’m sure it’s the same with others, too.
Scheduling in reading time helps out a lot, too. You can even start off with just doing thirty minutes a day, so it’ll be manageable. Then, when that becomes manageable, you can increase it.
Another suggestion would be to DNF (do not finish) books. Don’t feel bad about it. If you’re not vibing with it, drop it.
Conclusion on how to get back into reading
There are many ways on how to enjoy reading books again. It all starts with developing a reading habit. Making sure you’re picking the right books and setting the ones you don’t like aside. Instead of scrolling on your phone, you can replace a lot of that time with reading now, too.
I really hope that this helps you out and you’re able to fall in love with reading again!
