About Delicious Monsters

Daisy can see dead people. It has been there all of her life, and it’s a huge inconvenience. But when her boyfriend breaks up with her out of nowhere, she does the unthinkable and tells her mom she wants to move to the house she inherited. But the house is different; it just might consume her.

Brittany wants to get out from under her abusive mom. On the new season of Haunted Web, she wants to investigate an old home where a young black girl disappeared. As she investigates, she needs to figure out what lies she needs to expose in the home

What I thought

I picked up Delicious Monster’s mostly because of the cover. Scary books are my favorite, and usually what catches my attention with them is the cover. I know, I know, stop judging a book by its cover, because I never know fully what I’m going to get. If I’m honest, though, it is really hard not to. I’m a very visual person, so it’s hard for me not to judge a book by its cover. This book is no exception. The cover is the whole reason I picked the book up in the first place.

Liselle does a great job with the book, though. Even though I have never been in a situation like these girls before, she does a great job making you sympathize with Daisy and Brittany. Part of me even feels a little bad for a ghost and Daisy’s mom. They don’t exactly deserve it, but Liselle makes them a bit more likable. There are parts of the story that are quite a bit creepy, and if I’m honest, those parts gave me actual chills.

The only downside for me is that I feel like this book could have been cut back a lot. I don’t know if it’s me or what, but I’m starting to not like longer books (more than 350 pages). I think that has a lot to do with the fact that the stories have parts that don’t contribute to the story. The only time I don’t care is when the story is a series and I’m fully invested in the characters, which this is not. Overall, I enjoyed the book, though.
