Welcome to Owl Book World. If you’re new here, then my name is Kaili! I’m the one who runs this blog, and I like to focus on horror and thriller books. Every so often, I do read other types of books as well. But today we’re talking about the best thrillers with a supernatural twist!
Are any of you guys fans of supernatural books? I know I am. Maybe that’s why I like the show Supernatural so much. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I always find the supernatural creepier than most other subgenres. Humans are always nasty and are always going to be nasty. But do we really know what’s beyond the living?

Let me know what some of the best thrillers with a supernatural twist that you really enjoyed in the comments! I always love finding new books!
Best Thrillers with a supernatural twist
I feel like sometimes thrillers and horror kind of blend in with one another very well. At what point do they separate? The same thing goes for the best thrillers with a supernatural twist. What are some supernatural thriller books that you have on your bookshelf?
Wicked Dreams
I’m honestly surprised that I have read a single Lisa Jackson book. She has gotten pretty popular over the years, and I see her books floating around a lot.
It’s probably about that time I figure out which one I want to read first and get to them!
Here is what Wicked Dreams is about.
On a remote beach, there’s a note on top of a dead body that has no name. All that’s there is Ravinia’s phone number with a note saying “next of kin.” When Ravinia gets the call about the body, she insists she doesn’t know the man, but does Detective Nev believe her?
Five years after moving away, Ravinia carved out her life as a private investigator. Her specialty is to help others find their missing loved ones. But sometimes the missing are better off not found. A monster from her past, named “Good Time Charlie,” is a man that she and her sisters had hoped was gone forever. The man on the beach is a sign that he’s only been waiting.
The Blackhouse
Honestly, I want to read this one based on the cover alone. It looks so interesting, and the synopsis sounds interesting as well.
I’m kind of curious what the supernatural twist is to this one!
Here is what The Blackhouse is about!
Hoping to find safety and a community, Robert moved his family to Scotland’s Hebrides in the 90s. What the people there don’t know is that he is hiding a terrible secret. Even though he tries his best to fit in, everyone still sees him as an outsider. As a storm unravels around him, he starts to unravel as well.
Maggie has always sensed that something was wrong with her. When she was five, she told her family that a man died on Kilmeray. What makes that weird is that she’s never been there before.
Twenty years later, she wants to know what really happened to that man and what the islanders are hiding. The deeper she digs, the more she starts getting weird messages. Is she willing to put herself in danger to find out the truth?
The Lovely Bones
I’m sure a good majority of you already know about this one! If you don’t, I hear a lot of people think that this is one of the best thrillers with a supernatural twist.
It even tells you what the supernatural twist is in the synopsis. What’s great about The Lovely Bones is that this one does have a movie that you can watch afterwards!
Here is what The Lovely Bones is about!
Susie Salmon was murdered on December 6, 1973, when she was just fourteen years old.
Now she’s adjusting to her new home, which is in heaven. It’s not at all what she was expecting, and now she’s able to watch things on earth. Her friends are trading rumors about what happened to her. Her killer is trying to cover his tracks, and her family is unraveling.
The Dark Net
For a while, I was hearing about this story a lot. If I’m honest, I’m not really sure why I haven’t even read it.
The dark net always seems to interest me a little bit. Part of me wants to check it out, but I’m also a little scared to do that. Who knows what all we would be able to find?
Here is what The Dark Net is about!
The Dark Net is out there. It’s an anonymous and criminal area that reaches the far edges of the web. But now an ancient darkness is hiding there as well. It’s threatening to spread into the real world unless the ragtag crew can stop it.
There’s Hannah, Lela, Mike, and Derek, and they have no idea what the dark net holds.
Such a Pretty Smile
I wound up getting an advanced copy of this book before it came out. I tried so hard to get into this one, but it wound up not being for me.
But I know for a bunch of you that this will be one of the best thrillers with a supernatural twist. Just because I didn’t like it doesn’t mean that you guys won’t!
Here is what Such A Pretty Smile is about.
This guy is known as The Cur. He doesn’t leave a single trace, nothing but the victims he kills every fifteen years. These are women who won’t conform and don’t know when to shut up.
2019: Lila is thirteen years old and has a secret she can’t share. Women around her have been dying, and there’s a whole lot of speculation. Lila feels haunted from inside her. She’s being terrorized by an evil that helps her find her voice. That is, until she winds up in danger for using it.
2004: Caroline seems to be seeing dogs where no one else notices. These snarling and teeth-baring delusions start to take shape in her sculptures she does in a trance-like state. Her fiancé knows that she needs help from a professional.
Caroline and Lila need to find the source of power to either get rid of it or lose themselves.
The Haunting on West 10th Street
This is another book that I feel like a quite a bit of you would enjoy.
Just from the cover alone, it seems like this book would be pretty interesting.
Here is what The Haunting on West 10th Street.
As Detective Maria goes up the creaking stairs into the attic of the old brownstone, she feels that this just might not be an ordinary crime scene. The murder is brutal enough to shock someone as experienced as her. As she investigates, there seems to be an unsettling presence in the shadows. It makes her run down the stairs and never return.
This murder is the same as an actress sixty years ago. It was a crime that tore a family apart and shocked NYC. With both murders, there was a satanic ritual, and body parts had been taken to never be found again.
Is this the same killer? Is it a copycat? Maria is going to let being scared stop her from finding answers.
The Lighthouse Witches
This is another book that kind of makes it obvious what the supernatural twist is.
This is another book that I might try to get my hands on soon! I love a good book about witches, and it has been a while since I’ve read any book about witches.
Here is what The Lighthouse Witches is about!
Liv is a single mother and has just been commissioned to paint a mural in a 100-year-old lighthouse. This is a chance for her to start over with her three daughters: Luna, Sapphire, and Clover. But then two of her daughters go missing. She’s scared, especially when she learns that the caves under the lighthouse used to be a prison for women who were accused of witchcraft. As she searches for them, the locals make sure to warn her about the wildlings. They are supernatural beings that mimic human children and were created by witches for revenge.
Twenty-two years later, Luna has been searching for her sisters and her mother. Then she gets a call about her sister, Clover, and she’s so happy. But when she goes to pick her up, she’s still the sister she remembers, and that includes the fact that she’s seven years old, the age she was when she disappeared. But is Clover a wildling? When she returns to the island to search for the truth, she doesn’t realize how much that will change her.
The Changing Man
This is one of the best thrillers with a supernatural twist that I want to really check out. I love stories that kind of revolve around urban legends.
Hopefully, soon I’ll be able to try and read this one.
Here is what The Changing Man is about!
If Ife were able to she would be starting Nithercott School. Even though she has a scholarship for it, her parents still can’t afford the tuition. No matter who is trying to be friends with her from there, or how much the school tries to pull her in, she doesn’t want to get caught up with any of it.
When another student, Malika, starts to act strangely, Ife wonders if more is going on at Nithercott. Is the legend about the Changing Man true? Is there a connection to her classmates’ brother’s disappearance?
More questions keep coming up, and Ife has to team up with Ben and Bijal to figure out what’s going on. But can they figure out what’s going on quickly? Or will they be the Changing Man’s next victim?
Ask for Andrea
Ask for Andrea is another one that I’ve tried reading, but kind of struggled with reading.
But I know many of you would find this one pretty good. I know I was probably in a reading funk when I started this one.
Here is what Ask for Andrea is about!
He pretended to be an eligible bachelor as he hunted them online. He was the perfect gentleman and added a thick layer of charm. But what’s hiding behind the huge smile is that his first dates often end in disaster.
He’s gotten away with it three times now.
What can stop him from killing again? The women he murdered.
Meghan, Brecia, and Skye are all dead, but they aren’t gone. The three of them found each other, and they won’t rest until they can figure out how to stop him.
Conclusion to thrillers you should read this October
There’s some supernatural crime thriller on here, and there are others that don’t deal with the crime aspect of things. Either way, these are some of the best thrillers with a supernatural twist that would be a perfect read for spooky season!
