About Aftermyth

Penelope has spent her entire life getting ready to go to Anaximanter’s Academy. This is where they set out to learn more about the greek gods and figure out which Greek God the must embody principles of. When she and her twin brother, Paris, get there, nothing goes according to plan. She’s placed with the wrong God and isn’t with her brother. Her muse is terrible, and that’s not even the start of it. Can she manage to switch Gods and not have her life completely crumble apart?

What I thought

First off, I want to thank Simon and Schuster for sending out an advanced copy of Aftermyth. I really enjoyed it, and I can’t wait to read the next installment!

Character development: So, I really like Penelope. She’s a pretty smart kid, at least for me, and if I were her and going through what she did, then I would be a complete hot mess. I feel like she goes from a rigid, no-fun person to someone I could imagine hanging out with at that age. I have to admit that I hate her brother, though. I’m glad that she wound up making a good friend, though, despite being annoyed by her at first.

Plot: I’m kind of somewhere in the middle when it comes to the plot. I wish we had gotten a little more background on the school and why exactly the kids are chosen to go there. Are they the descendants of them or what? Maybe I just missed it. Also, it’s weird to me that she doesn’t talk to an adult about what happened at the start to figure out why her experience was so different. Plus, a girl her age, I figured she would have been bugging people about what that extra ball was about at the beginning of the book.

Overall thoughts: Overall, I really liked the story. This was done really well and, for the most part, caught my attention through the entirety of it. I was pretty much invested in figuring out what happened and how Penelope handles what comes her way. Also, I’m invested in figuring out why shes’ so special. Why are things so different for her?

I can only imagine the storyline is only going to get more exciting from here on out, and I’m here for it. This is the first book I’m reading by Tracy, and now I’m going to have to go out and read those, too.
