5 Winter Books for kids

Winter is here, winter is here! Or at least almost. But since winter is so close, it’s time for some winter books. All of these are going to be winter books for kids, because they should have themed books just as much as we do. These are some of the best winter books for kids that will either get them in the spirit of Christmas or get in the spirit for colder months.

Some of these are going to have funny parts to them, while others are going to have some sad to parts to them. Pretty much most of these books are going to be aimed towards six or seven-year-olds and up. Part of me wanted to include some picture books with this list, but I’ve seen so many lists out there that revolve around picture books, so I wanted this list to be a little different.

Hopefully, one of these 5 winter books for kids would be right up your alley!

Winter books for kids

I really hope that some of these winter books for kids are up your alley. There is a good selection on here that would really be worth your while, and hopefully, you’re able to start a new yearly tradition with reading winter books around this time every year. At least that is if you haven’t already started!

The Snowman Code

winter books for kids

I just received this book in the mail, and I can’t wait to get started on it. Honestly, this one seems like one of those heartwarming books that will make you a bit sad in some ways and, hopefully, happy by the end.

Got in this one at your own discretion, considering that it talks about a tough subject of depression. I haven’t managed to finish it just yet, so I’m not sure how deep it goes.

Here’s what The Snowman Code is about.

It’s March, and the ground is still buried in snow. Late at the park is still frozen over, and ten-year-old Blessing has three problems.

Problem 1: She hasn’t gone to school in a few months. She can’t deal with the Driplet Triplets, who constantly bully her. Her only solution is to avoid them and pretend she and her mom moved to Australia.

Problem 2: During winter, her mom gets sad. She gets so sad that she doesn’t go to work and, at times, doesn’t get out of bed.

Problem 3: This is the longest winter ever, and it doesn’t seem like there is an end in sight. If it keeps going on, the longer her mom’s sadness will continue. If spring doesn’t come soon, then people are going to find that her mom is too sad, and they will be separated again.

When she starts to lose hope, she winds up meeting a new friend named Albert Framlington. He’s a six-hundred-year-old snowman who might be able to help her with her problems. But unfortunately, Albert has a problem too that he needs a human’s help to solve.

Can they defeat the bullies, win back Albert’s lost love, and overcome the never-ending winter?

The Night, Nothing Went Right

winter books for kids

The Night, Nothing Went Right seems like one of the more interesting winter books for kids. In many books and movies, Santa and his elves seem perfect. They can’t do anything wrong.

At least that’s how in most movies and books we see. They get everything right and can do no wrong. So, it’s kind of nice to come across a book there, at least the elves aren’t perfect and make mistakes.

In fact, this is one book that I put on hold at the library so I’ll be reading it to my son here soon!

Here is what The Night, Nothing Went Right is about.

The naughty or nice list was set, or at least so they thought. But they soon realize that an elf named Tiny has made a huge mistake. It’s a mistake that can undo what Santa has worked so hard for.

The Chronicles of Narnia (winter books for kids)

I think just about most of you know about The Chronicles of Narnia. Surprisingly, this is one that I haven’t read yet. This wasn’t one book that I was completely drawn to as a kid. That is unlike most kids my age because I know there were quite a few of my friends who enjoyed it. But my focus was mostly on Harry Potter and Goosebumps.

Now, as an adult, I do kind of want to try and read it. Part of me feels just a little bit guilty for going to see the movie but never reading the books.

Here is what The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe is about.

Four kids open a door and ultimately enter the world of Narnia. It’s a land past the wardrobe. The country is a secret, and only Peter, Susan, Edmund, and Lucy know about it. This is where their adventure begins. Lucy is the first one to find out about it. No one believes her about it at first, but the other three eventually discover the magic and meet Aslan, the Great Lion. Within a split second, their lives completely change.

Mr. Popper’s Penguins

I watched Mr. Poppers Penguins a long time ago when it was first released. Honestly, when I was watching it, I had no idea that it was a movie.

This is another book that I’m planning on reading to my son, and hopefully we can watch the movie afterwards. I’m not really sure if this is going to be one that will be a hit or miss with him, though. I can see it going either way.

Let me know in the comments what your kids thought of this one if you guys have read it!

Here is what Mr. Popper’s Penguins is about.

The Poppers have come into possession of a penguin. But when the penguin mates and has ten babies, they have to figure something out, and soon, before the penguins eat all of the food in the house.

The Animal Rescue Agency #1 Case Files: Little Claws

winter books for kids

The Animal Rescue Agency is another book that I put on hold at the library, and I will be reading it to my son when it finally comes in. I’m honestly excited about reading this one myself, even if it does belong on the winter books for kids.

This seems like it would be a cute little tale for all of the animal lovers out there.

Here is what The Animal Rescue Agency is about.

A bear cub finds himself on an ice floe that’s heading out to sea. The only one’s that can help him and his mom is the Animal Rescue Agency!
