The Woman Outside My Door by Rachel Ryan
Welcome to Owl Book World. If you’re new here then my name is Kaili. I created this blog a couple of years ago to talk about books I really enjoy and some books I wound up not liking at all. Today I’m writing a review of The Woman Outside My Door by Rachel Ryan. I hope you enjoy my review!

The Woman Outside My Door summary:
The Woman Outside My Door follows Georgina and her son Cody. When Cody tells her about his new imaginary friend called Granny, she doesn’t exactly think anything of it. It’s normal for a seven-year-old to have one especially to compensate for a grandmother that just passed away. Not long after he starts talking about her Georgina grows suspicious. Cody starts bringing back candy and starts doing some of the creepiest things. Her husband, Bren, helps her reason some of the things Cody is doing. But her maternal instinct is telling her to question it.
What I thought of The Woman Outside My Door:
The Woman Outside My Door is a book that was gaining traction there for a while. I was seeing it just about everywhere and it caught my interest. So, of course, I had to pick it up. This is one of the few books that actually caught my interest even though the cover really isn’t the best (at least not to me). The cover honestly never caught my attention. Even though I wasn’t a fan I’m really glad that I picked it up because I really did enjoy it. I guess that’s why everyone always says to not judge a book by its cover.
The characters
I’m going, to be honest, even though I really enjoyed the story I honestly couldn’t stand Georgina. It’s always said that a woman should listen to her first instinct. I think I would rather be extra cautious and not really let anything bad happen. Yes, that may be an overreaction but still. When Cody said that he got candy from a stranger frustrated me a bit towards her. It seems like she just pats him on the hand when he takes and eats candy from someone he doesn’t know. I know later on in the book she kind of reasoned it off but I would still have a conniption fit. The fact that Georgina still let the kid eat it despite not knowing who it came from bothered me so much.
I think other than that I really liked her. It just bothered me so much that before she reasoned it away she didn’t take it from him. I’m glad that even though her husband was reasoning it away she kind of stayed on top of everything. The easy way out would be to just assume that it’s an actual imaginary friend and let it go.
The Plot
Despite that, I didn’t really care for the main character I still really enjoyed the plot. The plot of The Woman Outside My Door is very well-paced. It kept me wondering what was going to happen and if Cody was going to be okay. I completely understand why Cody wanted a “new grandma”. Grandma’s are the best and at his age, I would probably have done the same thing.
I honestly didn’t expect how it was going to end and the author kind of threw a curveball at you. Is it bad that I felt bad for “the imaginary friend”. This person didn’t exactly have a good life and it caused her to do some pretty stupid things.

ooh I’m really intrigued by this! It’s a shame the character had some unbelievable traits but I’m glad it wasn’t enough to put you off completely. Great review!
