September 2024 book releases you HAVE to read
It looks like September is going to be a good month when it comes to new releases. I’m so excited for the ones that I found. These September 2024 book releases are ones you’re going to have to add to your TBR (to be read).
Quite a few of these books seem thrilling and creepy and I know I’m going to enjoy them!
I wish I had known about these sooner so I could have gotten an advanced copy, but maybe I can still get them for Christmas!
Sure, here’s a more active version of that sentence:
Let me know in the comments which one you are looking forward to!
The Night We Lost Him
I can see a lot of you guys enjoying this one!
Certainly! Here’s a more active version of that sentence:
It looks like a lot of murder mysteries are coming out this year, and I’m excited about it. Hopefully, this is one of the September 2024 book releases that you can enjoy.
Here is what The Night We Lost Him is about.
Liam has always been many things to many people. To the world he is a self made wealthy person fleeing his past. His three ex wives thought he was a loving family man who kept his finances and family separated. To his daughter, Nora, he was a father who loved her from afar.
The police rule his death as accidental, but Nora and her brother Sam don’t think that’s the case. Nora and Sam aren’t that close and now they are having to form an alliance to figure out what happened to their father. As they are piecing together their father’s life they uncover a family secret that changes everything.
Graveyard Shift
I think this is one of the ones that I’m looking forward to coming out. The cover looks amazing and so does the sound of this book.
I can’t wait to read this!
Here is what Graveyard Shift is about.
Almost every night five people bump into each other after working the late shift. One is a bartender, a rideshare driver, a hotel receptionist, a church steward who hovers over them, and an editor of the college paper.
On an October night in the churchyard, they find a hole they’ve never seen before. It’s fresh and it’s a grave where no grave should be. But who dug it, and who is it for?
Before going their separate way the gravedigger returns, trailing him through the night they realize that this guy might be the reason for weird things happening around the town. They may be closer to the mystery than they though.

Sleep Tight
I wasn’t planning to buy any books soon because I have a ton I need to get to, but I’ll probably break that rule for this one.
I’m a very visual person, so when the cover stands out and the plot grabs my attention, I know I have to get the book.
Here is what Sleep Tight is about.
Father Silence is the one who terrorized the town of Twisted Tree. He did this by disguising himself as a priest and preyed on those were vulnerable in town. When the police finds his “House of Horrors,” they uncover nineteen bodies. On top of that they find one person who survived, a boy who now has to be locked away in a hospital for the criminally insane.
Two decades later Father Silence is put to death, but by the next morning the detective who originally put him in jail is found dead. Now there’s a new serial killer taking credit for the murder and he’s calling himself the Outcast.
The detective’s daughter, Tess, is also a detective. She’s haunted by her childhood trauma and she’s horrified by the death of her farther.
When her daughter is kidnapped by the Outcast, she is made to face her worst fears and buried memories. When she is left with no leads she goes back to Twisted Tree to visit the boy who survived to see what secrets might be hiding in his broken mind.
The detective’s daughter, Tess Claibourne, is a detective herself, haunted by childhood trauma and horrified by the death of her father and the resurgence of Father Silence’s legacy.
We Came to Welcome You
I have to admit that this book kind of reminds me of The Stepward Wives. I think it’s because the people on the cover look “perfect” in a sense.
This is another that I kind of want to break my book buying ban for. It looks interesting and sounds like it could be really good.
Here is what We Came to Welcome You is about.
Sol Reyes hasn’t had the best year. Quite a bit of workplace incidents at her university lab leads to a plagiarism accusation and ultimately led to her on probation. She’s a good daughter and visits her father often. But her dad is homophobic and it isn’t helping her mental health at all which leads her to drinking a glass of wine every night. Eventually, she starts finding herself drinking more and more each night. Her wife, Alice, is more optimistic than she is especially since they managed to buy a house in a beautiful gated community.
But after moving there they realize that the neighbors are a little too friendly according Sol. The HOA is really pushy, the contract is weirdly detailed, they are microaggressive and Sol has no interest in any of this. Alice just says it’s for community and they are wanting to “invest in a neighborly spirit.” This only irritates Sol more.
Weird things start to happen in and around the house. Doors and stairs disappear, roots start growing inside the house and this makes Sol wonder if her aggravation towards the neighbors isn’t aimed at something more sinister. Alice dismisses her fears once again and starts to get worried about Sol drinking and her behavior becoming manic. Sol finds a journal on the property that was left there from a previous resident that went missing. After reading she realizes exactly why they were to buy the house so easily.
William
William seems like one of the September 2024 book releases that I know will make me angry. You know how in horror movies when a character does something stupid and all you want to do is scream at them?
That’s the vibe I get from this one and I’m here for it. I know most of you probably do too.
Here is what William is about.
Henry is a smart and great engineer. Henry spent most of his hours in his home lab working until he had the breakthrough of his career. He has made artificial intelligence conscious. He calls his half-made robot William.
So far no one even knows about William. Henry has agoraphobia and it keeps him inside of his house. His fixation on William is what keeps him up in the attic. This means he stays away from nearly everyone including his pregnant wife Lily.
One day Lily’s coworkers show up wanting to meet Henry and to see the new house. While they are there Henry decides to introduce them to William but things go from strange to really bad. It doesn’t take them long to discover that the security upgrades that were intended to keep danger out of the house has been changed to locking them inside.

The Bachelorette Party
It seems like true crime type of books and shows are becoming kind of a big thing now. Is this a good thing or bad thing?
I think I kind of understand why people would really get interested in these sorts of things, but the one thing that makes me mad about it is how people tend to glamorize the killers. Just from the synopsis alone I kind of feel like the main character of the book does this just a little.
With The Bachelorette Party I don’t necessarily care about this but I do kind of wish this would calm down a little bit.
Here is what The Bacheloreet Party is about.
Everything seems to be going really good for Alex. She has her dream job and she is engaged to a man who almost seems too perfect. When her best friend takes her on a surprise bachelorette weekend she realizes that her friend plans things around Alex’s unusual interests and her obsession with the 666 killer.
Alex and her friends are thrilled about staying at the “haunted” hunting lodge where the killer stabbed his victim and wrote 666 on the walls in her blood. Getting snowed in wasn’t really apart of their plan but they make the most of it.
But when Alex wakes up the next day she finds that her friends have vanished, there blood splattered over their sleeping bags, and there’s blood on her hands. She has no idea what happened and it seems her recent prison interview with the 666 killer has stirred up some past demons.
The killer has always claimed that he was innocent and the real killer was still out there. Has the real 666 killer returned? Since she’s cut off from the world she must rely on her years of following true crime stories in order to solve the case.

Such Lovely Skin
Such Lovely Skin is another that I’m probably going to have to break my book buying ban for. When a book sounds really good it’s hard not to break it!
This is a concept that is kind of new to me and I’m really starting to love horror movies and books that revolve around electronics and video games. I’m not really sure why but I’m here for it.
Here is what Such Lovely Skin is about.
Viv has spent her entire summer wrecked with guilt about causing the accident that killed her little sister. Now she’s returning to Twitch streaming. Viv is scared to tell her parents the truth about the accident so she hopes that making it big in streaming and giving the money to them might make up for her mistakes.
Before school starts Viv finds the perfect horror game to make her Twitch comeback. When she does an offline practice run something weird happens and an NPC asks for a secret. She decides to tell the NPC the trust about what happened to her sister’s death. It’s not like the game can tell her secret. But after doing this she accidentally welcomes a demonic mimic into her life.
Since Viv is such an expert liar no one believes her about her evil doppelganger. Why should they? The only person who believes her is Ash, a social outcast that Viv once bullied. As she tries to clear her name and get rid of the mimic, Viv realizes that her lies have hurt so many people that didn’t deserve it, including herself.
The Unfinished
Supernatural horror books are some of my favorites so this is another one of the September 2024 book releases that I’m kind of excited about.
If you get to this one before me then let me know what you thought of it!
Here is what The Unfinished is about.
Avery is a small-town athlete who goes running every morning. When she decides to run this time it takes her to a strange pond in the middle of the forest. Just by going out there she awakens a horror that Crook’s Falls have long forgotten.
There’s something wrong with the water. She can smell it and see it flooding everywhere. She’s starting to question if she’s losing her mind. The water haunts Avery and each time it comes it takes a new form and people in town start to go missing.
Avery has heard whispers of monsters from her Mohawk relatives but she has never really connected to her culture which leads her to not understand the stories. The elders she has distanced herself from may now be the answer she needs.
When her best friend and crush disappear she is faced with a choice: Listen to her Mohawk relatives and save the town but ultimately lose her friend forever, or listen to her heart and put everything on the line to get her friend back.
If Anything Happens to Me
If Anything Happens to Me is the only one that’s probably on the bottom of my list with this one. Not that it sounds bad or anything but there are other books on this list that catches my attention more than this one!
Here is what If Anything Happens to Me is about.
Oli has gone numb after the death of her sister Eloise. Eloise was her other half and one day she went missing and later was found buried in the woods. Unfortunately, the killer is still on the loose. This is something that should scare Oli but nothing is going to get in the way of her visiting the site where her sister’s body was discovered. She doesn’t know what it is but Oli can sense her spirit there.
On one of her visits, she hears a voice calling for help and then sees a hand clawing its way through the dirt. Oli realizes that this is not her sister’s ghost but instead, it’s a young girl named Iris. She has lost her memory of what happened and has managed to end up in the same shallow grave as Oli’s sister. Can Iris be in some way connected to her sister’s murder? The two of them team up to recover Iris’s memory and uncover the crimes.
Are there any books on this list that you find interesting? I would love to hear your thoughts on which ones you’re thinking about getting this month!
